ToDoList – A Free and OpenSource Desktop Application for Windows
August 29, 2007 at 12:49 pm | In Links, Task Management, Windows, gtd | 1 CommentOh Dear God!!! A Windows App?! Yes, and it kicks a$$.
ToDoList by AbstractSpoon Software, is a Free and OpenSource Desktop Application for Windows which has some very competative features compare to other non-free ToDo List desktop applications.
The doumentation is a bit sparse or so I thought until I found the ToDoListDocumentation.tdl file which contains a ToDo List style help file in the unzipped folder. But still I haven’t figured out how to Import Data from an XML file because I can’t figure out the XML Schema.
Anyway one interesting and key feature that I discovered is the ability to store the “.tdl” file (this is where ToDoList stores the data) in a Network shared folder so that several different people can access the same todo list. Why is that interesting? Think of a team of people working in different cities but are on the same corporate network. The can all have a Mapped Network Drive to a single ToDoList file to keep track of and manage team tasks. This feature also comes with several security and version control mechanisms to ensure data integrity.
What I Like: It’s Free and OpenSource and it has some awesome features for GTDing.
What I Don’t Like: It has a steep learning curve and it lacks importing ToDo list from other formats. An Import Wizard would be a helpful add-on.

This showed up in my inbox back in June but I have been so busy that I haven’t gotten a chance to give it a proper once-over. Anyhow I just wanted to give TeamWorkLive a quick “shout-out” and say that it looks very promising.

Toodledo: An On-Line Task Manager that is Easy to Use and is Feature Packed
June 29, 2007 at 7:08 pm | In Firefox, Plugins, Task Management, gtd | 4 CommentsI have been very busy for the past few weeks with several projects all needing my attention at once. In the process of trying to keep track of tasks I did some research (aka surfing the web when I should have been working) into the world of On-Line Task Managers. In the end I found a few good ones, a few over complicated ones several that did pretty much the same thing and one that is almost perfect.

Goplan – Is The Shiznit of Project Management and Collaboration Application
May 30, 2007 at 8:36 pm | In Collaboration, Groupware, Project Management, Task Management | 1 CommentGoplan is my new application of choice. It’s got all the features you could ask like, Projects, Notes, Blog, Issue Tracking, Task Management, File Management, Calendar, User Access Control and Real-Time Chat.
Best of all the free account has most of the best features turned on except for the calendar, chat and access control but if you need those extras pricing starts at $10 per month.
What I like: It has loads of features and it is very well designed.
What I don’t like: Not much but I will say that the API needs a bit of work.
In fact if the API were a little more intuitive (and based on REST) goplan would be a awsome application to build a mashups and Firefox Extension with.

Clean, Easy Software Project ManagementHelping you and your team do things right.
I have been using the Free version Unfuddle for a fews weeks now and I must say I am very impressed. The key feature is access to Subversion, a source code version control system, to store one of the projects I am working on.
I like Unfuddle so much that I am planning on upgrading from the Free plan so that I can have more storage space and add more people to the project.

Open Source Groupware/Calendaring? from O’Reilly Radar
April 23, 2007 at 12:02 pm | In Calendar, Collaboration, Groupware | Leave a Comment“Sysadmin John Goerzen posted a list of events he was thinking of attending. I sent him mail explaining that we were trying to expand the sysadmin content at OSCON and asked him what he’d like to see. One item caught my eye: Groupware/calendaring solutions. This has been a big hurting point in free software for a while.”

From WebWorkerDaily – What’s So Difficult about Online Document Collaboration?
April 19, 2007 at 7:26 pm | In Collaboration | Leave a Comment
Who really likes using Microsoft Word to collaborate on documents? While Word has powerful built-in collaboration features, after a few rounds of edits the documents become unwieldy to read. Reviewers send an email explaining why they made a certain change, along with comments made inline in the file. By the end of the process you have 20 versions of the same file from 4 different….. ~ Read More
